the view

How often is it that we get used to the roads we travel? We become focused on our routines and our schedules that we are almost predictable. There is nothing wrong with that, if it is working for you. In fact I highly recommend it for some of the people I work with because those routines keep them focused, guided, and grounded.

For others of you, like myself, we need that detour every so often. Recently driving in southern California I experienced a detour that was one of those moments you want to hold onto forever. Attempting to miss the traffic, I went along the side roads. It has been awhile since I took these side roads and the streets were altered a little bit, well in a big way. They make it impossible to make a last might decision to go the right way, when you are headed the wrong direction. I kept moving forward. I took the road I was unintentionally forced to go, with the intention of making a u-turn just ahead. That became less and less of a possibility; however,  I did know that there was no outlet. I began to get frustrated by the decision to cut corners and not sit in traffic. Then I finally made the u-turn and just as I was beginning to lose hope again, I looked out from my tunnel vision and saw a view of the mountains, that I drive by weekly, in a way that I had never seen them before. They were golden in the sunshine and crisp against the bluish-grey sky, and for a second I felt that they were there just for my benefit. To enjoy this moment.

It is these little reminders that life is tough, we are going to make mistakes, we are going to make a decision that sends us down the rabbit hole. Along these new paths though, if we find something bright and positive about it, we just might find it in ourselves to realize that it was not all that bad. We can choose to look at the negative side and become stuck in negativity, or we can choose to look at the positive side. But let me tell you, when you are looking at the negative side and you are provided an opportunity to see the view in a positive way... TAKE IT! It might just be the moment you've been waiting to experience.

It is okay to be frustrated. It is not okay to live there.

Keep it bright. Keep it positive.
